A home for a scouting community

The Scout’s Den

Location:

Cheekpoint, Waterford

sector:

Community

certification:

A permanent base for the local scout group. The design, using simple materials, is tailored to the needs of the group. It features two mono-pitched roofs connected by a flat roof to harmonise seamlessly with the surrounding environment.

The 31st Waterford Faithlegg Scout Group are an integral part of the local Faithlegg, Cheekpoint and Passage East community — and are very much at the centre of the area’s social and community activities.

This proposed Community Scouts Centre allows the group to have a permanent base with facilities that have been designed specifically for the requirements of a scout group. The accommodation includes a communal hall, toilet facilities, meeting room, kitchen, external terrace, storage units and camping facilities which will be located within the site boundary surrounding the building. The building is contemporary in form and is made up of two mono-pitch roofs of altering orientations and heights with a flat roof connection in the centre joining the two mono-pitch forms together.

The use of simple materials together with the mono-pitch roof profiles harmonises the building within the surrounding landscape.
