This property is our clients intended lifetime home and they wish to alter the property to provide for their family needs into the future. The proposal involves a number of careful interventions, most notable is the ground floor extension to the rear of the property which offers views of the garden space and provides access to an external patio and the mature garden beyond. The ground floor extension proposal largely maintains the orientation of the functions of the house, but through internal re-planning allows for the better utilisation of the ground floor area to bring the property into line with the contemporary requirements for a family home. The proposed first floor attic conversion allows for a fourth bedroom and study area.
It is also proposed to modernise the elevation of the building in keeping with the newly proposed contemporary internal living spaces by simplifying the external typology with the use of a new render and selected cladding and the simplification of the window fenestrations.
By containing the extension mainly within the footprint of the existing property the relationship of the structure to any neighbouring properties remains largely unaltered. The existing house sits in a mature garden with an established boundary treatment which will be retained and supplemented as appropriate. The privacy and amenity of the adjoining properties have been central to the design development process.
The careful intervention in a 1960s bungalow to maximise the use of existing internal space and to optimise the enjoyment of an existing mature garden.
